The ladie's of the Soup Kitchen
In the heart of one of South Africa’s poorest communities lies a pre-school that looks to better the community in which it situated. Along with providing an entry level of education to the kids of the community, right behind the building of Siyaphambili Crèche you will find the Abounding Hope Soup Kitchen.
Catering to the I’ll of the community, the soup kitchen lies true to the second word in its name, “Hope”. Within the Soup Kitchen you will find two dedicated women by the names of Thozama Sifici and Melitha Mthendele who have dedicated their hearts to serving the community. The soup kitchen was founded with the aim to assist the community of Masinenge.
A poverty stricken community like Masinenge faces many social ills and challenges, where a large majority of the its members suffer from grave illnesses and diseases.
“We serve the people in the community and we aim to provide a meal to be able to provide those who are on medication with a meal. It’s vital for them to be able to take their treatment on a full stomach,” Thozama said.
Many of the community members who come to the soup kitchen suffer from illnesses like HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Sugar Diabetics and Meningitis.
The ladies of the Abounding Hope Soup Kitchen work alongside government Community Caregivers (CCG’s) who are deployed by Kwa-Zulu Natals department of health.
Through their work, CCG’s are able to identify community members who are in need of treatment and are too impoverished to have a regular meal. The CCG’s then provide a list to the Abounding Hope Soup Kitchen as to who will be in need of a meal.
We believe that the soup kitchen is merely one answer to the many questions and challenges the community faces, and as Abounding Hope, all we ever aim to do is to bring light into the darkness and through sacrifice, God’s will and blessings in the lives of all those involved, it’s only a matter time we bring true change to the community.
