The creche is served by a group of dedicated teachers, amongst them is Miriam Lunika whom we have worked with for well over five years in our journey of brining hope and development in the community of Masinenge. Originally from Matatiele, a small town in the Eastern Cape Nomthetho Miriam Lunika spends her time between her home between the neighbouring Gamalakhe township and Masinenge.

From around 2009 while working as a community caregiver, the following year Miriam would also join the creche as a volunteer. “I saw how the creche was being vandalized, with members of the community often walking through the school premises as a means of taking shortcuts. Some would even use the pre-school ablution facilities to relieve themselves and I knew it wasn’t right.

We eventually received sponsorships to put up burglar guards. We also volunteered with cleaning inside the creche,” Miriam said. In 2015 while I was working as a community caregiver in Masinenge and within the local ward committee I came across Abounding Hope and they were already heavily involved in the community. They were already running a soup kitchen and 2017 we began working together to as they were
looking to add an additional kitchen. Through my job as secretary of the ward committee we were able to partner up with our Ward Councillor to add a soup kitchen into the creche,” she said.

At this point in time, the creche had not been officially registered under the correct governing authorities. That is when Miriam asked Abounding Hope to assist with the getting the pre-school officially registered and recognised by the South African Department of Education.

Not being registered prevented the creche from receiving potential government funding. Through hard work, patience, collaboration and God’s blessings, the creche was registered by the end of 2018. That same year became a full-time teacher at the creche.

“Since then, Abounding Hope has never left us and have brought a multitude of growth to our pre-school. We have grown from having one classroom building, to having two. The addition of a newer soup kitchen from our sponsors has seen the pre-school begin to thrive. We are forever grateful to the seed that was sewn by Abounding Hope as it continues to grow and blossom,” Miriam
concluded.
